Engineers are more skeptical. Creating a wall across 2,000 miles of terrain would cost billions of dollars.
But not to worry! According to The Donald, all costs will be covered by the Mexican government, which he would strong-arm into footing the bill.
In an interview with Jorge Ramos on Fusion, however, former Mexican president Vicente Fox indicated that Trump may face implacable opposition to that offer.
"I’m not going to pay for that f***cking wall! He should pay for it. He’s got the money," Fox said.
"…Democracy cannot take that, crazy people that don’t know what is going on in the world today," Fox said.

United States National Health Care Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

The summary of the National Health Care Act includes the following elements, among others:[10]
- Expands the Medicare program to provide all individuals residing in the United States and U.S. territories with free (i.e. tax-funded) health care that includes all medically necessary care. This would include primary care and prevention, prescription drugs, emergency care, long-term care, mental health services, dental services, and vision care.
- Prohibits an institution from participating unless it is a public or nonprofit institution. Allows nonprofit health maintenance organizations (HMOs) that deliver care in their own facilities to participate. On the whole, private insurances would be replaced with the new nationalized system for all basic, major care.
- Gives patients the freedom to choose from participating physicians and institutions—which, given the coverage of the new national system, would be any institution or clinic in the United States receiving any degree of public funding (i.e. the vast majority).
- Prohibits a private health insurer from selling health insurance coverage that duplicates the benefits provided under this Act. Allows the private insurers to sell benefits that are not medically necessary, such as cosmetic surgery benefits.
- Sets forth methods to pay institutional providers of care and health professionals for services. Prohibits financial incentives between HMOs and physicians based on utilization.
- Establishes the USNHC Trust Fund to finance the Program with amounts deposited: (1) from existing sources of government revenues for health care; (2) by increasing personal income taxes on the top 5% of income earners; (3) by instituting a progressive excise tax on payroll and self-employment income; and (4) by instituting a small tax on stock and bond transactions. Transfers and appropriates amounts that would have been appropriated for federal public health care programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children's Health Insurance Program. These taxes would be paid instead of insurance premiums, as the government (instead of private insurance companies) would be paying for the care under this single-payer system.
note: vastly superior to obamacare. it is one of several universal care deals floating around.

For the first time since his strident defenses of globalization ruffled some fair trade feathers in the 1990s, Paul Krugman is in a protracted debate with the American left.
On the surface, they’re fighting about whether it matters that many centrist and center-left economists are uncomfortable with some of the promises Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign has made about how his policies will improve the economy. On a deeper level, however, they’re fighting about what it means to be a Democrat, and whether the party should behave more like a left-wing version of the GOP.
This is an important conversation, and the fact that it’s even happening should make lefties smile. They’re already on Nicholas Klein’s third step! For my part, I think both the “wonks” and their leftist critics are making vital points (annoying of me, I know). But they’re talking past one another, too. Leftists believe what’s important right now is politics, not policy. Krugman believes there should be no distinction.
With all due respect to the New York Times columnist, who has been an invaluable ally for the liberal movement for much of the past 16 years, there is a distinction. Good policy does not always make for good politics. There are positive lessons to be learned from the conservative movement’s example. And, right now, it’s politics — not policy — that matters the most.

Medicare-For-All Savings Would Be Equivalent to Eliminating Income Tax for 99% of Americans
Medicare-For-All Savings Would Be Equivalent to Eliminating Income Tax for 99% of Americans:

So says the analysis of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and tax law professor David Cay Johnston. Johnton makes it pretty clear that Sanders’ plan will be a boom to the economy. Major US manufacturers have discussed that the current for-profit health insurance system adds as much as $1400 to the cost of manufacturing each vehicle in the United States versus their single-payor competitors, but the savings could be enormous for individuals.
Think about that for a minute, $1400 of the cost of your new Ford or Chevy is healthcare costs for their workers and it is cheaper in Germany or Japan for competitors with universal healthcare. Do you think the price of your next car might fall a bit to compete? Do you think manufacturers might consider America more attractive? Do you think that Walmart might shave $0.02 off a gallon of milk because their healthcare costs went down?
His plans, if smartly put into law, would actually make the economy more efficient, saving taxpayers huge sums in some areas, while costing more in others. In my book "Divided: The Perils of Our Growing Inequality," and in Newsweek and Reuters, I have shown from official data that a smart single-payer system would save so much money it would be the equivalent of eliminating the income tax for 99% of Americans.
This story, to me, seemed to be burying the lead! It is deep into the analysis, but it might be one of the most important points.
Addendum: Thanks to Ozzie for pointing to an article in the comments below by Physicians for a National Health Program for spelling out in more detail how the current system robs Americans. It is interesting reading, and explains how the government already pays for 2/3 of all healthcare spending. www.pnhp.org/...

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Donald J. Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont harnessed working-class fury to surge to commanding victories in a New Hampshire primary that drew energetic turnout across the state.
The victories by two outsider candidates dealt a remarkable rebuke to the political establishment, and left the race deeply unsettled.
Mr. Trump, the wealthy businessman whose blunt language and outsider image have electrified many Republicans and horrified others, benefited from an unusually large field of candidates that split the vote among traditional politicians like Gov. John Kasich of Ohio and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida.
But Mr. Trump also tapped into a deep well of anxiety among Republicans and independents in New Hampshire, according to exit polling data, and he ran strongest among voters who were worried about illegal immigrants, incipient economic turmoil and the threat of a terrorist attack in the United States.

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) — Tensions were high Thursday outside the local Bricklayers Union office in Monroeville.
Dozens of people from the United Steelworkers union picketed for hours holding signs and calling members of the Bricklayers Union “scabs” as they drove by.
Members of the Bricklayers union have been working at the ATI plant in Brackenridge even though the United Steelworkers have been locked out since August.
“The Number 9 bricklayers have crossed our line since the beginning of the illegal lockout. And they won’t stop. They’re supposed to be our union brothers and sisters and they are treating it somewhat like a joke,” USW Union Worker Sherry Kaleugher said.
A total of 2,200 members of the USW have been locked out of ATI since August of last year.
The company announced this move in a contract dispute that’s dragged on since June 30.
“Because these Local 9 bricklayers have chosen to cross our picket line, it has enabled ATI to continue doing business,” USW Union Worker Scott Lalibert said.

An Iowa caucus-goer dropped the f-bomb live on MSBNC Monday night, forcing anchor Brian Williams to issue a quick apology.
The moment came as one young caucus-goer was voicing her frustrations with the VA.
“The fact that I haven’t gotten benefits in three months because the VA is so f***ed up…really makes concerned,” the individual said, as those around her were heard gasping.
Moments later, anchor Brian Williams cut in, apologizing to viewers.
“You know when you listen into caucuses, you take the good with the bad and people often speak the way they do out on the street and we apologize,” Williams said.
