A few thoughts on election 2010

Howdy folks.

Looking at some of the exit polls and other data, there seems to be some lessons to be learned from the disaster of the democrats.

First: Low to no turn-out in the ranks. About 50% of the registered voters turned out to vote and we know what party and ideas they represented. Worse than normal democratic support among union families and older americans; worse among women voters. I am awaiting more detailed "exit poll data" before going further.

Second: Money. Dems won in areas they turned on the money tap for the most part. Pubs had endless money supply and attacked everywhere at once. By the way, $4 billion spent is the current estimate. Perhaps we should have an election every year, seems good for the economy as a stimulus.

Third: lack of enthusiasm, messaging and more: Most voters did not understand or know of the democrats improvements and most voters viewed achievements as very poor or destructive. PR is not the strong suit of the losers this election.

Four: Most of the survivors of the dems are going "right" on issues to try to protect their seats. Alas, that is most likely to be a losing tactic in the upcoming elections. Dissing the base is not a wise political move for dissing the base is why dems lost many an election.

Five: looks as if some of the democrats sabotaged their own (historically repeating theme with blue dogs and party). Many dems bailed rather than fact tough election. We can go on and on, but many view the democrats as craven cowards, turncoats and worse. No wonder teabaggers kicked behinds.

Six: Many dems ran a poor, poor campaign. In some places, results were very tight and if the bases would have turned out; dems would have won. Going right among the survivers is not a winner for it will alienate base in next election.

Seven: dems did not field canidates in a variety of elections. Hell, they did not even run a canidate for US Senate in one state. Looks to me (and many others) dems took a position of a cutting and running campaign; something not a winner.

Eight: Dems did not oppose teabaggers early on, letting them frame the issues. In Missouri, there was no opposition for instance of Prop C (rejection of Obamacare). The teabag victory helped Mr. Blunt get elected to the senate riding on a wave of right-wing enthusiasm. We could go on and on.

Nixon, Claire, Obama and dems in general; time to get off duffs and get working for the people unless you are thinking of unemployment next election. You were elected to lead, not run like craven dogs in the face of special interests. The major lesson of this 2010 disaster is that you are failing to lead and that the GOP was not given a mandate on the issues. If you cave to right wing tax breaks and more, you are giving up your day jobs in 2012. I hope I am wrong, but I suspect not.

Blunt--Chamber of Commerce--foreign funds-

amazing story. Perhaps voters should ask questions, but that would a strech to ask the media.

Foreign companies can make a good deal--so many for sale and cheap

Jan,2009 meeting

Hope all had a good holiday season.

On the agenda: talk about "possible" healthcare reform. Also, politics and the politics of gutlessness on the parts of our leaders (time permitting).

Actually gutlessness is nothing new in politics. During most of American history, politicans have been pretty gutless in upholding the rights of individuals and very much in granting special rights of the soul-less corporations and special interests.

Matters not healthcare or civil rights (King was not happy with liberals in Democratic party as a matter of fact prior to his death) or labor/working folks rights and on and on.

That "gutless" policy actually predates the revolutionary war. Corporate giveaways (welfare) is nothing new.

We also will remind folks that if we wish picnic, folks must be on board to help committee. Since we are spread over half the state of Missouri and parts of Il, getting a central point and time will be difficult.

Also, we will discuss somewhat "election year" and the fact that some groups like trotting out the "oldfolks" as props. My political action committee will have the problem of presenting the Democratic Party as the folks that will get things done when most folks have some indication that the dems have been pretty gutless and that some of the dems could be republicans with no problem.

We shall also mention "canco movie" currently being passed around.

new voter photo "ID" flap in Missouri

Morning folks:

The Banana Republic of Missouri is once again attempting reform to the election laws. One hopes Governor Nixon vetoes this one called HJR 9 for its effect is not to make laws more fair, but to disallow voters in the State of Missouri from participating in elections. Failing that, time for lawsuits to block.

The resources devoted to getting voters propper id that is demanded by this bill opposed to the current systems is very limited and they could not get them out to the 200k plus individuals by next round of major elections in 2010 if they worked day and night, 24/7

How many and where one might ask (info from: http://www.firedupmissouri.com/content/connecting-dots-photo-id ):

St. Louis Co.: 51,708
St. Louis City: 29,949
Kansas City: 22,741
Greene Co: 10,043
Jackson Co: 8,866
Boone Co: 6,055
St. Charles Co: 5,903
Clay Co: 5,580
-----------------------estimated 230,000 voters in all and note the geographic locations and numbers.

Most elections in Missouri are determined by 25,000 votes or less by the way. Anyone think that disallowing 230,000 voters might have major impacts on election in this state?

Acorn folks against this bill and they are right to oppose this bill.

Election 2010 GOP has more bad news

Republicans are going to have problems. 4 senators have announced they will not run for reelection.

Christopher "Kit" Bond (Mo.)
Sam Brownback (Kan.)
Mel Martinez (Fla.)
George Voinovich (Ohio)

Now is the time for Democratic Party to do some work. It is also time for "progressive" canidates to start preps. Senate races are noted for consuming a lot of resources and cash.

Right now, too many doing too much celebration activities. Dems still could blow it if the public does not see some results. Many democrats had high hopes after 2006 elections and were let down by inaction in congress.
