The group Make January 28th Welcome Home the Heroes from Iraq Day still has spots on floats and fire trucks for veterans interested in participating in its parade Saturday.

The parade will begin at Noon Saturday at Kiener Plaza in St. Louis and head west on Market Street to Union Station. It will feature more than 100 units including elaborate floats, fire trucks, military vehicles and marching bands from both Missouri and Illinois, said LaDonna Appelbaum, one of the organizers.

The sponsoring group began planning the parade about a month ago when the idea sprang up during chats between friends and families about how to honor men and women returning from the Iraq War.
